Weekend Box Office: ‘Thor’ Smashes Competition
As expected, 'Thor' enjoyed a solid performance at the weekend box office.
The superhero flick, which impressed most critics with its action-packed storyline and breakout performance by star Chris Hemsworth, took in an impressive $66 million, leaving the rest of the competition in the dust. Globally, the film has already grossed $242 million, according to Variety.
Coming in second place was last weekend's top earner, 'Fast Five,' which fell a whopping 62 percent to earn $32.5 million. The film has grossed $139.9 million to date.
In third and fourth place were two wedding-themed comedies: 'Jumping the Broom' and 'Something Borrowed,' which grossed $13.7 million and $13.2 million, respectively.
Rounding out the top 5 was the animated hit 'Rio,' adding another $8.2 million to its $114.9 million total.
