Missoula Police Detective Guy Baker spends a great deal of his time helping to find and rescue missing women and children from sex and human traffickers, but is deeply troubled about the one year anniversary of the disappearance of Jermain Charlo.

Baker described the last time the 19 year-old Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribal member was last seen.

“The person she was with reported that they last saw her in the area of 5th Street and Prince, which is about a block east of Russell Street and 5th,” said Detective Baker. “That would have been in the early morning hours of Saturday, June 16th, 2018. They had been out at some bars and she just disappeared sometime after midnight.”

Baker said Charlo was very close to her family and friends and would not have simply cut off contact for no reason.

“She didn’t have any contact with her family after the 16th and she didn’t report for a job interview to be a wildlands firefighter on that following Monday, so her family became concerned within a day or two of not having any contact with her,” he said. “This investigation, of which I am the lead, involves the Missoula Police Department, the Missoula County Sheriff’s Department, Lake County Sheriff’s Department and the Flathead Tribal Police as well as the FBI. We’ve conducted over a dozen searches for Jermain and we’ve executed numerous search warrants and a lot of evidence has been submitted to the Montana State Crime Lab here in Missoula.”

Baker said he is in constant communication with the young woman’s family.

“We’re going to continue to work this until we find a resolution,” he said.

The Salish and Kootenai Tribal Council has increased the reward for any information as to the whereabouts of Jermain Charlo to $10,000.
