School Resource Officer Resigns Over Sexual Misconduct
LAUREL, Mont. (AP) — A Montana high school resource officer has resigned after the City of Laurel learned he had exchanged "flirtatious and inappropriate" text messages with a 16-year-old student last spring.
KULR-TV reports Officer Fred Gregory resigned from the Laurel Police Department on Tuesday. He had been an officer for 11 years and was working as a school resource officer at Laurel High School.
City administrative officer Matt Lurker says the investigation revealed Gregory and the student had sexual contact last July at a residence in Billings, which is about 18 miles (29 kilometers) northeast of Laurel. Lurker says the relationship reportedly ended shortly after that.
Gregory was placed on paid administrative leave during the investigation.
