This Wonderful Montana Airline Is Sorely Missed For Locals
It would be nice to have this airline back to fly to places in Montana and the surrounding states.
One way of the easiest ways to travel around America is by flying. It's convenient, safe, and sometimes cheaper. Plus, you will get to your destination faster.
The Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport is the busiest in Montana, and the numbers are staggering. Millions of people travel from all over America through the airport to check out Montana, and it's pleasant for us locals in case we need an escape out of the state.
What if you want to travel to another Montana city? You will either have to drive there or book a private jet, which is expensive.
Could there be something better? Well, there used to be.
Less than 20 years ago, we used to have an airline that flew to places all over Montana and surrounding states. That airline was Big Sky Airlines.
Big Sky Airlines was headquartered in Billings and would fly to Kalispell, Great Falls, Missoula, Sidney, and other cities in Montana. Plus, they had flights to cities in surrounding states like Boise, Idaho, Walla Walla, Washington, and more.
When I went to college outside Boise, Big Sky Airlines was a blessing for trips back home. Instead of driving ten hours, it was a short one-hour flight to Missoula to meet up with my folks.
Sadly, Big Sky Airlines went bankrupt in 2008 and stopped operating. The recession killed small airlines like Big Sky Airlines, and it was sad for them to stop existing.
Do you have any fond memories of Big Sky Airlines? I loved how we all had a window and aisle seat. Plus, the pilots were very friendly and fun with passengers.
Maybe one day, Big Sky Airlines will exist again, or we will have to wait to see if the passenger train becomes a reality in Southern Montana.
