Popular Trail Near Bozeman Closed Due to Small Fire

Crews are working to contain a small fire located along a popular hiking trail northeast of Bozeman.

According to a press release from the Custer Gallatin National Forest, crews responded to reports of a small wildfire located along Drinking Horse Trail. Firefighting crews from the Bridger Canyon Fire District and Custer Gallatin National Forest are currently on the scene and have reportedly completely contained the Drinking Horse fire.

Officials are asking the public to avoid the area to give crews space to work. The trail is expected to reopen when conditions are safe and crews complete mopping up and cleaning the area. The cause of the fire is currently unknown.

If you see smoke in the area, there is no reason to be concerned. Crews are expected to be mopping up hot spots throughout the day. Please don't call 911.

A small 80 x 80 wildland fire is located along Drinking Horse Trail. Firefighting resources are on the scene from the Bridger Canyon Fire District and mopping the fire up. Fire is completely contained, and no control issues are expected. Please avoid Drinking Horse at this time, until the scene is safe, mopped up and cleared. The public can expect to see smoke throughout the day, as there are several areas to mop up and extinguish all embers.
