The building's walls have shoes, coolers, and other hardware lining the store from floor to ceiling. This Backcountry store also carries fishing equipment, bike gear, and helmets, and will carry ski and snowboard gear when winter rolls around. Backcountry boasts the top brands in the market and will be a big player in the Bozeman area when it comes to outdoor companies.

Backcountry announced back in February of 2022 that they planned to open a storefront in Bozeman. Impressively, they were able to gut, remodel, and open their new location in less than six months.

Backcountry is known more as an online outdoor company, and this will only be its seventh brick-and-mortar location nationwide. They have stores in Seattle, Boulder, Chicago, and throughout Utah. Bozeman will be the smallest market to have a stand-still store.

It will be interesting to see how Backcountry will impact the outdoor market in the Bozeman area. Bozeman has several well-established outdoor stores including Chalet SportsRound HouseSportsmen's WarehouseBob Ward's, and Crazy Mountain Outdoor Company. Even Second Wind Sports, a used sports store, has some great outdoor items to check out year-round.

Even though it's summertime, Backcountry's real test will be what they offer to entice locals come winter. Only time will tell.
