A handwritten note that included a bomb threat targeting several schools was found at an elementary school in Great Falls prompting Great Falls Public Schools to close all of its schools on Monday.

Christian schools in Great Falls along with the University of Providence also closed as a precaution.

The closures affect more than 11,500 students.

Officers say the public can expect to see an increased police presence at schools throughout the day and residents are asked to stay away from the schools as much as possible.

The Head Start program is also closed and after-school activities have been canceled.

Great Falls College remained open.
