Tired of Booking Airbnb’s in Montana? Check This Out
This could be a massive shakeup for the short-term rental market and a win for travelers.
When folks travel to Montana with a large group, they typically go against booking a hotel and get a short-term rental through Airbnb or VRBO. Why? Usually, it's cheaper, closer to attractions, and can house large groups of people. Over the past few years, Airbnb has been getting called out for its excessive fees.
People complain that the fees are equal to or cost more than the per night fee of the house or room rental. This has caused many travelers in Montana to find other ways to save money on trips with their families.
One of the biggest threats to Airbnb is its hosts. Check this out.
The Points Guy reports that many hosts on the Airbnb site are privately asking their repeat or new customers to book with them off the website. Rental companies have been essentially cutting out Airbnb and making their rentals more affordable for travelers.
You could save hundreds of dollars by booking privately through these rental companies instead of Airbnb, and the company has already seen signs of losing money. Airbnb wants to make the prices more transparent, but that feature could take months to become a reality.
Short-term rentals like Airbnb and VRBO are in hot water with the City of Bozeman. Bozeman has chatted about banning these types of rentals city-wide. Nothing is set in stone, but we probably won't see this move happen until after the busy summer months.
Airbnb and VRBO changed how folks traveled in Montana and throughout the world, and now they have to find a way to become affordable again for the average family.
