Montana Snowboarder Dies in Accident at Big Sky
A 29-year-old Belgrade has died following a snowboarding accident at Big Sky Resort.
According to a press release from the Gallatin County Sheriff's Office, Big Sky Ski Patrol received a report of an unresponsive skier at approximately 11:30 a.m on Wednesday, March 23.
The skier was located on the North Summit Snowfield on Lone Mountain. The snowboarder reportedly suffered a fall. Life-saving efforts to revive the snowboarder were made by the Big Sky Fire Department and Big Sky Ski Patrol but were unsuccessful.
The North Summit Snowfield is one of the more complex trails at Big Sky Resort and skiers and snowboarders are required to wear a beacon and ski with a partner. The press release did not indicate whether or not the snowboarder was with a partner.
The deceased snowboarder has been identified as 29-year-old Chandler Pelletier of Belgrade, Montana. Pelletier was an employee at Big Sky Resort and an experienced snowboarder.
The Gallatin County Sheriff's Office and Gallatin County Coroner are currently investigating the incident. This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
