A mining company can do exploration work for silver and copper near the Idaho border. That's what Montana officials have agreed to. But they have been warned its license could be revoked if concerns over the record of the company's president are found valid.

Officials are investigating company president Phillips Baker. They want to know more about his previous association with Pegasus Gold Corporation. Government agencies have reported that company spent more than $74 million to clean up an old Montana Pegasus mine.

The Cabinet Mountains Wilderness Area is near the area where the mine is proposed.
