At about 9 Friday night, a Missoula Police officer initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle after observing it cut across several lanes of traffic. Police Public Information Officer Travis Welsh says the vehicle entered a parking lot near the intersection of Benton Avenue and Reserve Street.

“The officer made contact with the driver and identified him as 57-year-old Eugene Grant Jr.,” Welsh said. “The officer made observations that led him to believe that Mr. Grant may be under the influence of alcohol. He conducted his investigation at the scene and the result was that Mr. Grant was taken into custody for DUI.”

According to Welsh, this is not the first time Grant has been arrested for DUI.

“The officer soon learned that Mr. Grant had previous convictions for the same offense,” Welsh said. “The officer took him to jail for a charge of felony DUI, indicating that this was his fourth or subsequent DUI arrest.”

Welsh says Grant was charged with an additional felony for violating his probation.
