Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue in West Yellowstone was dispatched late on Thursday, January 10th to rescue two snowmobile riders. The two riders became separated from the group in the extreme backcountry area outside of West Yellowstone. One man was missing and the other was presumed stuck.

The lost snowmobiler was reportedly in a very steep and heavily wooded area in the Red Canyon area about 16 miles NW of West Yellowstone. Eight rescue personnel responded to the provided GPS location.

Four hours later verbal contact was made with the lost snowmobiler. It took an additional hour to reach him due to the rough terrain. The 29 year-old Minnesota man was found uninjured and was taken back to safety. His snowmobile was left behind.
