Huge News, Trump’s Newest Federal Judge Nominee in Montana
In 2025, President Trump nominated former US Attorney and Republican State Rep. Bill Mercer to the federal bench in Missoula. Katie Lane has now been selected to fill the US District Judge seat in Billings.
I'll say again now with this nomination that I said with the Mercer nomination back in 2025. This is huge. The liberal federal judges are what have been killing Montana for working class folks. They constantly side with the radical environmentalist elites, shutting down jobs and shutting down access to public lands.
Here's what President Trump shared on Truth Social:
I am pleased to announce the nomination of Katie Lane to serve as Judge on the United States District Court for the District of Montana. Katie brings fantastic experience to her new role, previously serving as Deputy Solicitor General of Montana, a State I love and won big three times! Katie has also played a critical role in stopping Voter Fraud as Senior Counsel for Litigation at the Republican National Committee. She received her J.D. from George Mason University’s Antonin Scalia Law School, and B.A. from Furman University, before clerking for Judges Timothy Tymkovich and Thomas Varlan. Katie is Highly Qualified and Respected, and will boldly defend our Constitution. Congratulations Katie!
Here was the official reaction from AG Knudsen:
It is an honor to congratulate Katie on her nomination to serve as the next federal judge in Montana. During her two years in my office as deputy solicitor general, Katie played an integral role in defending Montana’s laws and challenging the Biden administration’s unconstitutional mandates. President Trump could not have made a better pick as I am confident she will bring valuable experience and integrity to the bench and look forward to welcoming her back to the state.
Previously, Attorney General Knudsen appointed Lane as deputy solicitor general of Montana. She served in that position from May 2021 to March 2023.
