Montana’s SEAL Senator Moves to Protect “America’s Game”
Will "America's Game," the Army-Navy Game, get pushed aside by the major networks? Not if Navy SEAL veteran Senator Tim Sheehy (R-MT) and President Trump have their way.
You might recall that there was a January announcement by President Trump that he will take executive action to protect the Army-Navy game’s broadcast slot.
Now, a resolution introduced by Senator Sheehy recognizing the Army-Navy football game as America’s Game passed the Senate unanimously. According to a press release from Senator Sheehy's office, "The resolution expresses the sense of the Senate that the Army-Navy game is a cornerstone of U.S. collegiate sports and calls on broadcasters, athletic associations and conferences, and universities to protect the game’s exclusive status and avoid scheduling other college football games during its regular time slot."
Sen. Sheehy: “For more than a century, the Army-Navy Game has been a celebration of patriotism, national unity, and our brave servicemen and women. I’m proud to lead this bipartisan resolution recognizing this historic rivalry as ‘America’s Game’ as we work to preserve the singular spotlight it deserves."
As an Iraq-Afghanistan veteran myself, I would add that several of our fellow American Legion and VFW member friends have found the game as a great way to restore the camaraderie of military service, as many posts around the state will plan get togethers for the big game. I know our friend George Blackard, who joins us on the radio every Freedom Friday, is a big fan of getting together for the game.
