This Northern Montana Town Is The New Hot Spot For Big Lottery Winners
I joked for a long time that I should move to Great Falls or Billings because that's where it seemed all of Montana's big lottery winners were buying their tickets. That may not be the case anymore. One Montana town is selling decently big winning tickets every week now. (They may not be the BIGGEST winners, but they this town is having winners more often.)
The Montana Lottery awards a surprisingly large amount of money to it's winners every week. You can see the number of high-tier winners of $5,000 or more from across the state on a weekly basis, updated every Monday. You'll see the town where the winner is from, where they purchased their ticket, how much they won, and what Montana Lottery game they were playing. (Winning names are NOT listed.)
The Montana Lottery was created by a citizen's referendum in 1986. Since then, it has paid over $774 million in prizes and returned approximately $302 million to the State of Montana and $83 million in retailer commissions.
What is a "high-tier" Montana Lottery winner? "A high-tier prize is any prize of $600 or more." That could be a scratch ticket, a sports book winner or something larger such as a Powerball winner. If it was purchased in Montana, a winner of $600 or more, and IS CLAMIED - it's considered a high-tier winner.
So what Montana town seems to have more winners these days? You'd think the largest towns would statistically always produce the most winners. That doesn't seem to be the case recently. Kalispell, Montana has had an impressive number ofwinners on the high-tier list for several weeks, now. Some recent examples include:
- A Kalispell winner, playing Shake A Day, claimed their prize of $7,480 on July 14. The winning ticket was purchased at the Glacier Park VFW Post in Kalispell.

- A winner from Kalispell claimed their winning prize of $10,000 on May 11 playing $500,000 Jackpot Multiplier. The winner bought their winning ticket at Town Pump of Kalispell on 859 West Reserve.
Who knows if this lucky streak will continue for Kalispell but we'll keep our eyes on it. There have been several other (and sometimes much larger), very impressive Montana lottery winners recently. A few of the BIG ones include:
