Living in Montana has its advantages and disadvantages. There's a lot of room to explore and enjoy your privacy, but the state lacks many of the modern conveniences that are common in larger cities around the country.
Montana is beautiful and locals and visitors have easy access to a plethora of outdoor activities, including hiking and skiing. The cost of living could be lower, but all of the great things about Big Sky Country with with a price.
As with any state, there are certain places where crime rates are higher than others. So, where are the best places to live in Montana with sacrificing safety?
WalletHub just released an updated list of The 100 Safest Cities in America in 2025, and two cities in Montana made the cut. Affordability, economy, safety, and quality of life were measured to compile the list.
Below, you can see how Montana compared to other states in the country. Billings was ranked at #68, and Missoula landed at #34. Warwick, Rhode Island was named the safest city in America in 2025.
