Yellowstone Bison Attack Reminder To All Who Visit Montana
It's that time of year again. The time when folks from all over the country and world come to Montana and the surrounding areas to enjoy the beauty, the nature, and the wildlife.
For those of you who haven't seen the video of the gentlemen being thrown into the sky by the bison at Yellowstone, let's just say it's gone viral. The man was thrown 8 feet in the air and it's my understanding has some pretty serious injuries to show for it. It's also my understanding that it seems he might have been an innocent victim, which isn't always the case.

For many, it's a bucket list item to visit Yellowstone National Park. Not only is it home to some amazing geothermal features, it's also home to a ton of wildlife, the key word being wild.
When folks come to the park, they need to remember these animals aren't trained, nor are they tame. They will attack you, hurt you, and kill you. That's why there are certain barriers in place, but for those who are unaware, or have forgotten, we will go over them again.
Here is a look at the minimum distances set by the National Park Service:
- Bears and Wolves: Minimum 100 yards
- Bison, Elk, Moose, Deer, and Coyotes: Minimum 25 yards
Now, keep in mind those are MINIMUM distances. It should also be noted that according to the NPS, the safest place to see wildlife is from inside of your vehicle.
Of course, the temptation will be too much for some, and because of that, the "Don't Pet The Fluffy Cows" clothing industry will remain in business. It should be noted that when you visit Yellowstone or any National Park, you are a guest in their home.

Not the other way around. Be safe and keep your distance.
