Who Are Montana State Fans Supposed To Cheer For This Weekend?

Well, this is an awkward situation...

Tomorrow afternoon over in Missoula they will play a football game to decide who goes on to the FCS National Championship Game down in Frisco, Texas. The matchup between the North Dakota State Bison and the University of Montana Grizzlies should be a tough game for both teams.

The Griz have looked impressive of late and are playing in front of what will no doubt be a loud and energized home crowd. NDSU has also looked impressive and hasn't had any issues with winning on the road. As of this writing, the Bison are one-point favorites.

So where does that leave Montana State fans?  I mean, who are we supposed to cheer for?

The Bison beat the Bobcats in overtime to move on in the playoffs and the Griz, well...they're the Griz and they are our biggest rival. We surely can cheer on the team we love to hate the most, can we? This is a dilemma.

I'm hearing a lot of Montanans say that even though it's the Griz, they're cheering for the state of Montana (which means they're cheering for the Griz) and that a National Championship would be great for the state. I suppose there might be something to that, but I just can't do it.

No matter how hard I try, I can't cheer for the Griz.

Then there is NDSU.  The FCS powerhouse has won championship after championship including beating the Bobcats a couple of years ago down in Frisco in the National Championship Game. Of course, we were all seeking revenge when they came to Bobcat Stadium a few weeks back, however, it didn't turn out the way we had hoped with the Cats losing at a 26 home game winning streak snapped.

So what does a Bobcat fan do?

Well, as much as it pains me to say this, I'm cheering for the Bison to win.  Don't get me wrong, I dislike them all almost as much as I do the Griz. Both fanbases come across as obnoxious, but the loss to them in the playoffs stings a little less if they go into Missoula and take care of business.
