If you spend any time watching or reading the news here in Montana, then I'm sure that you've heard that the end is near, there is no hope, blah blah blah.

Now, keep in mind, that I'm not making light of anything here, but for whatever reason it seems that the media, whether it be mainstream or social, works off of fear. The more fear, the better, at least when it comes to the amount of viewers and dollars that can be made.

So you can imagine the potential alarm when the President of Russia mentioned Montana when talking about potential nuclear targets.

In fact, during his State of the Union to the Russian people, Vladimir Putin mentioned 14 potential targets that the country of Russia would hit if they ever decided to have a nuclear attack on the United States of America.

Why would Russia target Montana in a nuclear attack?

At first, it does seem a little odd, doesn't it? I mean Montana has just over a million residents and a whole lot of open space.  Why would the Russian President care about Montana? For the same reason that he cares about North Dakota and Wyoming. All 3 states made the target list when the Russian President spoke to his country.

According to The Express, Putin mentioned Montana, North Dakota, Wyoming, Utah, and 10 other locations that were targeted in the event of a nuclear war.

As most know, Montana is home to Malmstrom Airforce Base and that's where you will find the 341st Missle Wing which is an intercontinental missile unit. The same goes for Warren Airforce Base in Wyoming and over in Minot, North Dakota you have the 5th Bomb Wing.

It seems that Mr. Putin's grand plan is to take out all of the strategic points where the United States could counterattack in case of a nuclear war.

For those of a certain age, this isn't anything new. Many of us grew up in the shadows of the Cold War and for those even older, remember the drills that would take place in school when they were kids. The threat of nuclear war has been around for several decades and the sake of humanity, let's hope it remains just a threat and nothing more.
