Plus, fishing is darn near an all-year-round activity in Big Sky Country, so to say that we take fishing here seriously would be a bit of an understatement.
No matter your skill level, anyone can enjoy a day fishing in Montana from the old-school bobber to the more advanced technique of fly fishing, there is something for everyone here in The Treasure State.
With over 3000 lakes and hundreds of rivers and streams, those looking to get out in nature while hoping to catch a fish or two have lots of options. Plus, Montana is home to over 90 different species of fish.
What's the biggest fish ever caught in Montana?
While we've all heard a good "fish story" once or twice when it comes to the biggest fish caught in Montana, you have to go back to 1968. According to Montana Fish, Wildlife, and Parks, the biggest fish caught on record was a 75-inch, 96-pound White Sturgeon. (for those bad at math 75 inches is over 6 feet).
Oh, and in case you're wondering if you plan on fishing on state waters and are 12 or older, you do need a Montana Fishing License.
For those looking for a license, you can get one online at the Montana Fish, Wildlife, and Parks website. They have licenses for both state residents and those coming from out of state. The site also does an excellent job of breaking down all the rules and regulations you need to know. Of course, several other retail locations offer Montana fishing licenses as well.
