For many Montanans, Lent is a big deal.

If you are unaware, Lent is something that is practiced by several churches including, Roman Catholic, Eastern Orthodox, Episcopalian, Lutheran, Methodist, and many others. The act represents sacrifice and for many, giving up something that is difficult to do without.

Lent starts with Ash Wednesday and ends on Holy Thursday lasting a total of 40 days.

For many, they give up sweets, for others, and this seems to be a popular choice, they will give up red meat on Fridays. It seems the sacrifice makes fish a popular option. from fish fry's to fast food sandwiches, fish seems to be what's for dinner for a lot of Montanans this time of year.

Which Montana restaurants serve the best fish?

While I'm sure that opinions vary, I'm a fan of the fish and chips at both Montana Ale Works and the Bacchus Pub in Bozeman and The Fainting Goat in Livingston. However, lets see if we can't expand a little and find out where you can find the best fried fish in Big Sky Country.

According to reviews, the following locations are highly noted for their delicious fish and chips:

  • Montana Brewing Company in Billings
  • The Club Tavern in Bozeman
  • Montana Ale Works in Bozeman
  • Brew House Pub and Grill in Helena
  • Windbag Saloon and Grill in Helena
  • Mint Bar and Grill in Livingston
  • The Neptune in Livingston
  • Thomas Meagher Bar in Missoula
  • Kampfire in Missoula

Of course, it's only a few suggestions and many churches and civic groups of community fish fry's this time of year that are always well attended.
