Steve Daines Highlights Dobbs As Debate Over Abortion Continues

Montana Senator Marks Anniversary Of Landmark Supreme Court Decision

A U.S. Senator from Montana is marking the anniversary of one of the most significant Supreme Court decisions in recent history.

Sen. Steve Daines has introduced a resolution commemorating the fourth anniversary of Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization, the ruling that overturned Roe v. Wade and returned the authority to regulate abortion back to individual states.

How The Dobbs Decision Changed Abortion Laws Across the U.S.

The resolution is symbolic, meaning it won't change any current abortion laws in Montana or anywhere else in America.

When announcing the resolution, Daines called Dobbs a historic decision that allowed states to set their own abortion policies. He also highlighted the work of pregnancy resource centers that provide support, care, and information to women.

The Dobbs decision instantly changed abortion laws across the country and since then, some states have expanded abortion access, while others have passed stricter restrictions.

Montana Democratic Party Responds To Daines Resolution

Montana landed right in the middle of that debate in 2024, when voters approved a ballot initiative by roughly 15 points that added the right to an abortion to the Montana Constitution.

Since then, there have been multiple efforts to challenge or roll back that amendment, but none have been successful.

Responding to Daines' resolution, Montana Democratic Party Executive Director Emily Marburger said that Montana residents have shown the country "exactly where we stand" regarding abortion, adding:
