BUTTE, MT - Would you say that, over the past few years or so, that the quality of life here in Montana has increased, decreased, or stayed the same?

That question definitely depends on who you're asking. Anyone who was born and raised in Bozeman, Montana, would probably say that their quality of life has decreased, since the town they had come to know and love had transformed in the blink of an eye from a sleepy and respected farm town into a highly populated metropolitan area. In fact, a study found that less than half of the population in Montana are actually from here. I would guess Bozeman has less than 20% of the population that are from Bozeman. But hey, that's just me speculating.

If you were to ask me, I'd say life is pretty darn great here. And even if the quality of life has decreased for some, I'd bet they still love and appreciate this beautiful state—and we all know we could be a lot worse off. But what if you ask the general Montanan population? What would they say?

In a 2024 survey conducted by University of Montana with the 2024 Voter Survey on Public Lands, the results show that over three-fifths (62% of those polled) say that the quality of life in their area is worse than five years ago. 31% say it's about the same, and 6% say it's improved.

There are some strong implications with this study, one of which being how the Montanan state of affairs remain to be a hot topic and an increasingly present issue with those who wish to preserve the integrity of this great state.

Only time will tell what will happen. For now, let's just sit back and enjoy what we have: great people, great food, and great views.
