Is it ‘Time’ For Montana to Say Goodbye to Daylight Savings?
Hopefully, you remembered to do the whole "Fall Back" this weekend as we said goodbye to Daylight Savings Time for the year. Of course, nowadays it's a lot easier than it used to be. There are entire generations that will never understand the bleeping clock on the VCR because we couldn't figure out how to change it.
Here's a question. Is it time for Montana to get rid of Daylight Savings Time?
First a little history, the legend goes that it was first suggested by that great American Ben Franklin, who apparently was full of ideas and inventions. It seems way back in the day, they were looking for a way to cut down on all the candle use.
Changing the time allows for longer daylight in the summer months and I understand all of that. I get how beneficial it was for those farming and ranching back in the day. Of course, ag is a big business here in Montana and we certainly have our share of ranches, but I mean we are pretty proficient with lights nowadays.
It seems to me that maybe it's time for it to go and we just keep the same time, all year. Apparently, I'm not the only one that feels this way. I decided to ask Montanans what they thought, so I posted on Social Media asking if we should keep or get rid of Daylight Savings Time and the results are in and the people have spoken.
What did Montanans have to say? Get rid of it!
Now, there were a few that believe it is still needed, but there was a huge majority that said it's 'time' to say goodbye to Daylight Savings. If Montana decided to get rid of Daylight Savings, we wouldn't be the only state to do so. Arizona nor Hawaii participate in Daylight Savings and according to you, the people, you're ready for Montana to become the third state to say goodbye to the practice.
I'm not sure how one goes about doing so, I'm guessing it would start with our local state officials and they would then debate on the issue and it would go from there.
