Historic Victory for Little Shell Tribe On the Way [AUDIO]

A fight for federal recognition has been decades in the making for the largely Montana-based Little Shell Band of Chippewa Indians. That long-sought recognition is now one step away from reality as a bill is now on its way to President Donald Trump's desk.

The effort to federally recognize the Little Shell Tribe has garnered a lot of attention and bipartisan support over the last decade. Congressman Greg Gianforte (R-MT) was able to successfully steer the bill through the US House. The bill has also been strongly supported by Senator Jon Tester (D-MT). But the key piece of action that finally put this legislation over the top was when Senator Steve Daines (R-MT) convinced Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) to include the measure in a near end-of-year spending bill.
