Do You Live In One Of Montana’s Top Ten Most Dangerous Cities?
Every night when we go to sleep, we like to feel safe. We don't want to worry about whether there will be a break-in, a shooting, or even worse, a murder. So when it comes to Montana, what cities are considered the "most dangerous"? Maybe you are living in one right now.
Starting with the MOST dangerous and heading to the least dangerous, here are your TOP 10 most dangerous cities in Montana.
The most dangerous city in Montana is Wolf Point. Although Wolf Point doesn't have any murders, it is incredibly high in violent crimes, especially with a population of less than 3,000.
With the violent crime rate sitting at 470.8, that puts Wolf Point’s crime well over double the national average. -Housegrail.com
The second most dangerous city is Ronan, MT. Even with the crime rate declining in the last 5 years, Ronan is still double the national average for violent crime.
Third on the list of most dangerous Montana cities is Missoula. A growing population will have some responsibility for Missoula being third on this list.
Coming in fourth is Cut Bank, MT. The crime rate for Cut Bank jumped by 26% for this small Montana town.
Right in the middle of the list of 10 is our state capital, Helena, MT. Luckily, Helena has seen a decrease in crime by 15% which helps it stay in the bottom half of the top ten list.
The sixth most dangerous city in our beautiful state is Polson, MT. Here is the good news; in 2018, it had a crime rate score of 517.8, and it has significantly dropped since then, which makes Polson a town that will hopefully make it off the top 10 list completely.
Seventh on the list of the top 10 is Great Falls, MT. With Great Fall's violent crime rate not being extremely high for its population, the property crime rate is incredibly high. In fact, the property crime rate is more than double the national average.
If you live in Havre, MT, you are in the eighth most dangerous city in Montana. With the size of Havre compared to the rest of the cities/towns on the list, the crime rate is pretty average. The main crime in Havre is theft. So make sure you lock up if you live there.
Ninth on the list is Billings, MT. Billings has the most homicides, but because of its population, it finds itself down at the bottom of the list. Unfortunately, both violent and property crimes are much higher than the national average.
Finally, the tenth most dangerous city in Montana is Hamilton, MT. Now don't let the murder per capita rate scare you, when you put in the small population of Hamilton, you really only have ONE murder. Hamilton's crime is dwindling every year, making it a more desirable town to consider calling home, if you don't already.
There are lots of ways that you can try and stay as safe as possible. One way is to make sure you are aware of your surroundings. As convenient as cell phones are, keep your eyes and head up. Lessen the distraction.
If you are traveling, make sure to check in daily with someone you trust. Having someone know your whereabouts could save your life.
