Today is the sixth day of the Bridger Foothills Fire. Residents were allowed back to their homes in some of the evacuation areas on Tuesday. Here is the latest info regarding the fire:

  • There was minimal fire activity yesterday (Tuesday), keeping the fire at 7,138 acres. The fire is mostly smoldering and creeping. Cooler temperatures and precipitation over the last 24 hours have limited fire spread and intensity.
  • Gallatin County Sheriff Brian Gootkin confirmed that 28 houses and an unknown number of structures have been lost to the fire.
  • 298 fire personnel are now working this fire.
  • Temps are expecting to begin warming up. Fuels will continue to dry, and fire activity will increase. Temperatures in the 90s possible early next week with a Severe Fire Weather Index at: High.
  • Effective today (Wednesday), Sept. 9 at 10 a.m., Bridger Canyon Road will be open for residents only from Boylan Road to Jackson Creek Road. Jackson Creek will be fully open between Interstate 90 to Bridger Canyon Road.

Residents are asked to stay off the roads from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m., and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. to allow for fire crews to travel the roads. The Gallatin County Sheriff's Department is also requesting that residents go directly to their homes. This is not a time to visit your neighbors or have friends, extended family, or construction crews if they come to your residences. It is still an active fire zone, and fire teams are still working. Residents need to stay out of their way.

  • In the active fire zone, residents can expect to see smoke and flames. DO NOT call 911. They can notify fire personnel in the area if they are around, but they are aware of the situation.
  • Today several local organizations are hosting an in-person event to help out those impacted by the Bridger Foothills. This special event is called #BridgerHelp Neighbors in Need: Relief and Support Day. The event is at the Gallatin County Fairgrounds from 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Click the button below for more info.
