Bozeman’s Longfellow Elementary Named One of the ’50 Best American Public Elementary Schools’
The Best Schools recently ranked Longfellow Elementary (here in Bozeman) #18 on itslist of "50 Best American Public Elementary Schools." Only schools that included grades 3 - 5 were considered for this list, focusing on the scores and achievements of only the third, fourth, and fifth grades.
When looking at state assessment scores, all state-administered tests were considered in a school’s overall average for grades 3 - 5. Also note that this list of schools includes a few schools not located in America’s 50 states. According to TBS' website, all out-of-country schools on this list are run by the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA). They are located on military bases and operated by certified teachers. The schools have AdvanceEd accreditation and are recognized by the U.S. Senate as American schools.
Longfellow ranked 18th out of 50. In addition to earning a 2014 Blue Ribbon award from the Department of Education,
Longfellow students have a tradition of caring and community service exemplified in things like collecting non-perishable food for the Gallatin Valley Food Bank, and attending the Women’s Auxiliary dinner, raffle, and auction for veterans, through which proceeds go to provide Christmas gifts and food for military families in need.
