Bozeman’s Beloved ‘Christmas Spiders’ Will Light Up This Week

It's officially that time of year. Bozeman's infamous 'Christmas Spiders' will be hoisted up downtown this week.

Technically, they aren't actually spiders, but the popular holiday decorations have acquired the nickname. The decorations mark the official start of the holiday season in Bozeman.

Main Street in Bozeman will be closed on Tuesday, November 30 beginning at 8:00 a.m. while crews hoist up the 'Christmas Spiders' in intersections throughout the downtown area. The closure is expected to last 3-4 hours.

Since the early 70s, the Bozeman Fire Department has been a part of the beloved Bozeman tradition and helps hang the lights and decorations. Thankfully, cranes and boom trucks have made installing the decorations much easier.

Each year, the 'Christmas Spiders' are installed the week before Bozeman's annual Christmas Stroll, which is known as Bozeman's greatest holiday tradition and takes place on the first Saturday in December.

The Christmas Stroll is scheduled for this Saturday, December 4 from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. This year, Bozeman will be celebrating its 41st Christmas Stroll. Santa Claus is expected to make an appearance and downtown Bozeman will be filled with holiday spirit.

The 7th Annual Santa Run For Education is also scheduled for Saturday and will kick off the Christmas Stroll and will help support the Bozeman Schools Foundation. If you're interested in participating in the Santa Run For Education, more information can be found here.
