After weeks of discussion and online polls, an official decision on the new Bozeman Gallatin High School mascot was finally made.

The Bozeman School Board voted 7-to-1, Monday, in favor of Raptors (dinosaur) while also announcing that the school's colors will be black and royal blue.

Bozeman Schools Superintendent Rob Watson referenced the community poll at Monday evening's meeting, which gained over 2,700 votes from students, district staff and members of the Gallatin Valley community.

After all the votes were compiled, the Raptor name topped Mountaineers by a slim margin.

Members of the community attended the board meeting, with some voicing support for the Mountaineers name due to both its ties to the military and the geography of Bozeman.

The mascot design is up next and should be unveiled in the near future as the district brands the new high school.
