Montana Residents Thrilled “Big Sky” TV Show Gets Canceled

Television shows based in Montana have been a massive trend over the past few years. Shows like Yellowstone and their spinoffs, 1883 and 1923, have further propelled the idea that Montana is still like the Wild West. Yellowstone recently announced it's to end after its current season, and Montanans were sad and happy about the news.

Even with that news, one major network show set in Montana and has been popular with Americans remained. That was until today.

Deadline reports that ABC has canceled the show Big Sky after three seasons. The drama series was created by David E. Kelley, who created shows like Big Little Lies, Ally McBeal, and more, and was a massive hit in their first season. The show starred Kathryn Winnick(Vikings) and Jensen Ackles(Supernatural) and had guest spots with major country stars like Reba McEntire and Darius Rucker.

Big Sky started with a bang killing a main character in the first episode but couldn't keep viewers over the seasons. One of the show's main problems was it wasn't filmed in Montana. The show was either shot in New Mexico or Canada.

If you have a show set in Montana and use several landmarks, you better be sure the sets or areas look like what you are referencing. It was a major turnoff for many Montanans who watched the show.

With Big Sky's cancellation, this leaves 1923 as the only television show that is set in Montana. The show's second season will start filming soon in Montana and will have its all-star cast of Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren.

Maybe the craze for Montana shows has finally subsided.
