Authorities Identify Man Found Dead in Gallatin River
Yellowstone National Park officials have identified a man whose body was found Wednesday in the Gallatin River within the park.
On Wednesday, October 10, Gallatin Sheriff’s Search and Rescue utilized a drone to search for the body in the Gallatin River. Authorities identified the man as 29-year-old, Dane M. Offutt, most recently from Big Sky.

- On Saturday morning, October 6, 2018, an abandoned vehicle was reported on U.S. Highway 191 near mile marker 29 in Yellowstone National Park.
- On Sunday evening, October 7, 2018, a missing person was reported to the Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office.
- The missing person matched the description of the possible driver of the abandoned vehicle and a search was initiated.
- On Wednesday afternoon, October 10, 2018, a body was recovered from the Gallatin River near where the vehicle was found.
- The cause of death is still under investigation
