An Open Letter To People Leaving Odd Junk Around Bozeman

This is something that happens every year in Bozeman, but it's starting to get out of hand.

Every year, as students at Montana State University prepare to wrap up the school year, something strange happens in Bozeman. Used furniture, including couches, desks, and more begin to show up on sidewalks and around streets in Bozeman. For many, it's a sign that students at MSU are leaving town, but for other residents, it's an eyesore.

If you want to get rid of your used furniture, ditching it on the sidewalk isn't the way to go about it. Each year around this time, the City of Bozeman partners with Montana State University for the "Don't Curb Your Crap" campaign. The purpose of the program is to give students an opportunity to get rid of their unwanted furniture responsibly.

If you can't sell the items that you want to get rid of, the City of Bozeman will come and pick them up. According to the City of Bozeman website, leaving old furniture on the sidewalk or out in the street can create safety and health hazards.

Here are the items that the City of Bozeman will pick up.

• Couch/sofa
• Mattress + box spring (count as 1 item!)
• Chair
• Table
• Desk
• Dresser
• Items too big to fit in a garbage bin

It's really easy to register and be a responsible citizen. The "Don't Curb Your Crap" program ends on May 31, so you still have time to get rid of your unwanted furniture in a responsible way.
