Fueled by drought conditions and wind gusts from the remnants of Tropical Storm Lee, the massive Bastrop County Complex fire east of Austin is the most destructive fire of the year, Texas Emergency Management Chief Nim Kidd said. Despite the efforts of hundreds of firefighters, the blaze has grown to 30,000 acres and is still uncontained.
Texas Governor Rick Perry Will ‘Make Clear’ He’s Running for President
Texas Governor Rick Perry, who has yet to formally announce his candidacy for the GOP presidential nomination, is certainly acting like he’s in the running. Two associates have said he will visit the early-voting states South Carolina and New Hampshire on Saturday.
Perry will give a speech in South Carolina “to make clear that he’s running for president” before then heading to a house party in New Hampshire at the home of state representative, Pamela Tucker, who has been encouraging Perry to run.
Another Piece of the Space Shuttle Columbia Found in Texas
Authorities in the East Texas city of Nacogdoches have found an object about four feet in diameter that NASA believes to be a power and water tank from the space shuttle Columbia.
“It’s one of ours,” said NASA spokeswoman Lisa Malone. “We’re looking into whether we’ll send a team out or local authorities can.”

Texas has outdone us passed a bill in the House to increase the speed limit to 85mph! Back when Montana didn't have actual speed limits on highways, I assumed the prudent speed was around 85mph, but we changed that because it just wasn't safe.
