A new online ad campaign uses a little bit of humor to try to get past the stereotype of what a Republican is, saying that Republicans do things like drive a Prius, shop at Trader Joe's, read the New York Times -- in public, and put together Ikea furniture, the kind of things that would more likely make you think of a Democrat.

The ad was created by political strategist Vinny Minchillo, a former member of 2012 GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney's ad team. He said, "The goal of the campaign is to let people know that the common misperceptions and stereotypes of Republicans are inaccurate and there is a vast range of everyday Republicans among us."

I personally like the video...

But the backlash wasn't far behind generating internet meme after meme; Eventually commandeering the social media hashtag #ImARepublican:

Talking Points Memo the Left-leaning site even piled on 'Republicans Are People Too' campaign, saying, “When you need to remind people that your party’s members ‘have feelings’ or ‘are people, too’ you definitely aren’t winning.”
Play nice out there, kids!!
