The Rembrandt drawing that was stolen over the weekend from an exhibition at the Ritz-Carlton Marina del Rey Hotel in Southern California has been recovered from a San Fernando Valley church.

The Judgment, a 17th century sketch by Rembrandt van Rijn, was taken while the curator was distracted by someone claiming to be interested in buying another piece. Officials at the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department called the heist “a well-thought-out and well-planned theft” that defied considerable security measures.

Police received an anonymous tip on Monday claiming the sketch was in the unnamed church. No one has been arrested in the case, but police said they believe the thief was working with accomplices.

The Judgment is worth an estimated $250,000. There are about 700 surviving drawings that art experts believe were created by the Dutch master.
