Sunday at 11:27 a.m., The Gallatin County 911 Center received a report of an ATV accident with injuries in the Little Bear Drainage area.  Gallatin County Search and Rescue along with Gallatin Gateway Fire and Summit Air Ambulance responded to the area.

Summit Air was able to locate the victim, a 62 year-old female from Gallatin Gateway. The two riders were riding off the trail in steep rugged terrain. While traversing a side hill the 62 year-old lost control of the ATV and it rolled down the hill crushing her between the ground and the ATV.  Due to the terrain and the location of the injured female it took several hours for ground crews to reach her.

Once ground crews arrived on scene the female was moved cross country to Summit Air and transported to Bozeman Deaconess Hospital with significant injuries. Approximately 20 personnel assisted in the rescue of the injured rider.

Sheriff Gootkin reminds back country enthusiasts to use caution in the back country and in unfamiliar terrain.
