Facing allegations that he had inappropriate sexual contact with an 18-year old, Congressman David Wu (D-OR) has resigned, effective upon the completion of the debt ceiling negotiations.

On Monday, House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi had called for a full investigation into a report in The Oregonian that the seven-term congressmen had engaged in an “unwanted sexual encounter” with the teenage daughter of a one of Wu’s friends and donors.

The 56-year old had initially rebuffed calls for his resignation, and claimed that any sexual contact was consensual.

Earlier this year, it was reported that seven of Wu’s staff members had resigned because of his erratic behavior, which included Wu emailing staffers a photo of himself dressed in a tiger suit.

As a college student in the ’70s, Wu had been disciplined by Stanford University for trying to force an ex-girlfriend to have sex with him.
