Japan on Tuesday debuted a flat-top destroyer that has has caused China and others elsewhere concern because it bears a strong resemblance to a conventional aircraft carrier. The ship "Izumo" has been in the works since 2009, comes as Japan and China are locked in a dispute over several small islands located between southern Japan and Taiwan.

Some experts believe the "Izumo"could potentially be used in the future to launch aircraft that have the ability to take off vertically. Only ratcheting tension in a stressful situation.
