Hurricane Sandy

Here in Montana, we read, heard and watched the coverage of Hurricane Sandy but sometimes it can be hard to actualize the devastation of a natural disaster that happened all the way across the country. It's been a year since Hurricane Sandy rocked the East Coast and these photos remind us of just how destructive it was and how resilient people can be.

NEW YORK (AP) — New Yorkers who got into minor trouble in Manhattan have been sentenced to Sandy. Attorneys at the Manhattan District Attorney's office wanted to help with cleanup efforts and created the weeklong community service program.

Having your house surrounded by water because of a flood is usually a good enough reason to stay home from work, but not this time. Marsha Hedgepeth works as a technician in an emergency room. So when Hurricane Sandy put her Toms River, New Jersey, neighborhood under 10 feet of water, she knew she had to get to her hospital so she could help those who were injured in the superstorm.

While many people took to Facebook bragging about how much booze they stockpiled and how Hurricane Sandy wasn't very strong at all, the following heartbreaking scenes were happening in other places. Apparently even the prospect of being cooped up is enough to make some people go bonkers. Here is video proof -- it's a handy-dandy compilation of all the bizarre antics accidentally caught by news cameras during Hurricane Sandy.

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie recently praised President Obama for his support and attention to the crisis of Hurricane Sandy. Does this mean Christie supports President Obama in the upcoming election? I'll leave that up to Christie to decide, but I do know it's great to see everyone working together when Americans are in need.

As predicted, Hurricane Sandy created one crazy night. Millions without power, explosions, flooding and at least 18 people dead. Don't let your braggedy friends on Facebook convince you this wasn't a big deal. It was crazy. Here are some pics to sum up what happened. Feel free to share your photos in the comments.
