Olympics Bound? Better Pack Your Montana Beef Snacks
Headed to the summer Olympics in Paris? You better pack your Montana beef snacks. Did you hear about these absurd restrictions on red meat that the athletes are forced to suffer under?
In case you missed it, Rachel Gabel had a great report featuring some shocking information on the Western Ag Network's Daybreak Ag Report Tuesday morning.
As Russell Nemetz introduced Gabel, he added this: "Hopefully, the Olympians bound for Paris pack their vitamins and beef sticks, because 60% of the meals served this year to athletes will be plant based and vegan."
Rachel Gabel: "Meat free hot dogs and plant based tuna are on the menu that is touting the health benefits of vegan and plant based meals from the rooftops of Paris."
Plant based tuna? Yikes.
Gabel quoted scientists from UC Davis and elsewhere who have made the point that the livestock industry actually does a more efficient job of delivering protein to feed the world. Not only that, but beef plays a huge role in a healthy diet.
Rachel Gabel: "Beef plays a role in a healthy diet by providing more nutrients and fewer calories. To consume the same amount of protein in that three ounces of beef, an Olympic athlete would have to eat six tablespoons of peanut butter, or three cups of quinoa, and the substantial amount of calories those foods contain."
Yeah, for those who don't know- peanut butter has protein, but it is also high in fat.
Let's just say- if you're headed to the Olympics in Paris, you are definitely going to want to pack some red meat. (A couple great options for jerky and beef sticks are featured in the photos above- Anthem Snacks based in Bozeman, and Reminisce Angus based in Dillon)
I was able to tag along with the Anthem Snacks crew for UFC 300 in Vegas. They're the official jerky of UFC. By the way, that photo on the upper left above is from inside the UFC Performance Institute in Vegas. That is the high quality beef that those incredible athletes are using.
