More Volatile Winter Weather Alerts For Montana Mountains
September weather in Montana is anything but boring. Snow is on the way for several mountain ranges and high elevations by noon Friday. 6 or more inches of snow may accumulate in places such as southern Gallatin and Madison county mountains.
The first day of fall in 2024 isn't until Sunday, September 22nd but Montana's weather is throwing everything at the wall this month. Just this week, we've had heat advisories, thunderstorm warnings, flash flooding concerns, and now Winter Weather Adivisories.
- A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL NOON FRIDAY
- WHAT...Snow expected above 8000 feet.
- Total snow accumulations up to 6 inches with isolated higher amounts possible above 9000 feet.
- WHERE...Gallatin and Madison County Mountains and Centennial Mountains.
- WHEN...Until noon Friday.
- IMPACTS...Plan on slippery road conditions.
- Slow down and use caution while traveling.
- The latest road conditions can be obtained by calling 5 1 1 or visiting the MDT Road Report website.
- Outdoor recreationalists should be prepared for winter conditions.
- Snowfall and cold temperatures may result in hypothermia.

The northern part of the state around Glacier National Park can also expect some snowy conditions, but probably not as much accumulation as the mountains of southwest Montana.
- A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 6 PM THURSDAY EVENING TO 6 AM FRIDAY ABOVE 7000 FEET
- WHAT...Snow expected above 7000 feet.
- Likelihood of minor to moderate impacts from around 1 to 3 inches of snow is 90 percent, and 3 to 6 inches of snow is 50 percent.
- WHERE...West Glacier Region.
- WHEN...From 6 PM Thursday evening to 6 AM Friday.
- IMPACTS...For MINOR to MODERATE impacts from snow, backcountry users should prepare for wet and raw conditions.
- Hazardous traveling conditions on backcountry roads is possible.
