LOOK: Montana MDT Cameras Have The Most Wonderful Views

Highway cameras have always been thought of as useful tools. But in Montana, our MDT highway cameras have some of the best views of rural scenery in America. It's truly breathtaking what you can see.

Many other states have lots of highway cameras, but they're purely utilitarian and quite frankly - offer zero natural beauty. Take for instance, a random view from a camera in northern California...yuck:

Why are Montana's highway camera views so incredibly awesome? The answer is deeper than just 'Montana is really pretty'. States with much bigger cities are generally focused on traffic problems. Montana is usually focused on weather problems.

If weather conditions are the primary concern, the cameras not only need simple views of the actual road surface - but much wider views of the landscape and possible oncoming storms.

Montana's Road Weather Information System (RWIS) consists of 73 sites across the state. Road weather information systems provide real time information via standard communication tools (phone lines and computer network) statewide.

These sites are located in strategic locations to provide accurate real time weather information.
