3 to 4 Foot Waves Continue Friday on Fort Peck Lake

The frustrating gusty winds that have affected Fort Peck Lake for most of this week, continue all day on Friday with a Lake Wind Advisory. Rough water with 4 foot waves are a threat to small boats.

In addition to the Fort Peck Lake area, the southeast corner of Montana is experiencing VERY gusty winds on Friday - but they are tapering off as of mid-day and the advisories for that area will expire.

• A LAKE WIND ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 PM THIS EVENING.
• WHAT...Northwest winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 35 mph.
• WHERE...Fort Peck Lake
• WHEN...Until 6 PM this evening.
• IMPACTS...The strong winds will create waves as high as 4 feet over Fort Peck Lake today.
• PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Boaters on Fort Peck Lake should use extra caution since strong winds and rough waves can overturn small craft.

There are six recreation sites within close proximity to the dam. By checking the Fort Peck Lake projected wave model, you can determine which areas might be more dangerous than others.

"One recommendation is to go out to the Pines Campground, about 20 miles southwest of the dam. It provides some great scenery and photo opportunities, especially late in the day." (Missouri River MT)
