It’s always fun seeing where Montana schools stack up when the big national rankings roll around. Every year, U.S. News and World Report releases its list of the best high schools in the country, and a handful of Treasure State schools consistently find themselves near the top. The 2025–26 rankings are in, and once again, Montana schools are showing they can hold their own with the best of them.

Where Did Montana Highschool Rank In The Country?

So who grabbed the top spot? That crown went to Bozeman High School, with Lone Peak close behind, followed by Whitefish High School and Gallatin High School. Out of 171 Montana schools reviewed, Bozeman High School made its mark on the national stage. It ranked No. 660 overall out of nearly 18,000 schools.

How do they decide these rankings? U.S. News crunches numbers across six factors: test proficiency and performance in math, science, and reading, college readiness, underserved student performance, college curriculum breadth, and graduation rates. Translation: it’s not just about grades, but how well schools prepare students for life after graduation.

Lone Peak had some bragging rights to by taking Montana’s No. 1 spot for college curriculum breadth and ranked second in college readiness, meaning students aren’t just finishing school, they’re set up with some solid opportunities beyond it.

Vintage Photos Of Montana

It's hard to imagine what Yellowstone National Park would look like in black and white. We are so used to seeing the colors that make it one of America's favorite travel destinations. Jezel Doughert's grandmother passed away and like many of us do, she spent hours going through years and years of history, from old yearbooks to news clippings, to pictures. Jezel sent me a piece of history that, if not for her, I wouldn't be able to share with you.
