Social media seems to be the new go to for any type of news that we all need these days.

My Facebook, Twitter or Instagram friends will sometimes post news before mainstream media does. We knew Bill O'Reilly was gone before he did.

But is that a good reason to join any or all of these?

Why Facebook?

There are over 6 billion people living on planet Earth. One billion of those are active users of Facebook every month.

Every month — Think of that. One billion souls, one sixth of the planet, logs into Facebook.

The nice thing about Facebook is — it’s a closed group. If you don’t want to be friends with someone you don’t have to.

You have to open the social doorway and give them permission to enter your space.

I think that’s the biggest reason for its popularity. Someone gets on your nerves simply unfriend them.

I personally believe that our last high school and college reunions were more highly attended because of Facebook and Instagram friendships.

Why Instagram?

Photos. We are all nuts about taking photos of everything. I don’t think it’s possible to have a cell phone with a camera.

And once we learned how to use that camera phone all bets are off. Everywhere we go and do requires at least 25 photos that we’ll share on Instagram and Facebook.

Look what I had at the restaurant.

Why Twitter?

Trump’s on it, all day, all night, all the time. It’s quick and easy. You’re only allowed 140 characters and spaces to express yourself.

So to save time and space you learn cutesy things like; “b4”= before, “btw”=by the way, “imho”= In my humble opinion, “rotflmao”= rolling on the floor laughing my a** off.

Why YouTube?

No matter what it is, no matter what it does, — you can find it on YouTube.

Need to know how to balance a ceiling fan? — YouTube. Need to know the oven temperature and how to cook almost anything? — YouTube.

Need a review of a product you're thinking of buying? — YouTube.

Want to teach your dog to sit up and beg? — YouTube.

Some Final Thoughts

While social media does have it’s downside and abuses all in all the good out weighs the bad “imho.”

So I will continue to use them all and laugh and smile at the good, challenge or delete the bad, and hope everyone else does the same.

Do you use any of these? If not, why not?
