For the first time in a long while, Bozeman isn't number one, but we made the top 20. According to Bloomberg's "These are the 20 richest small towns in America," Bozeman checks in at number 19.

The chart below shows the 20 micropolitan areas (about 10,000 to 50,000 in population) that ranked the highest in Bloomberg's index of small town wealth, which combines measures of household income and home values.

What draws the well to do to these areas, including Bozeman, a number of factors: Great skiing and other winter recreational opportunities and in the summer hiking, biking, fishing and camping were cited as tops on the "to do" list. Having visited more than half of the cities on the list, I have to notice that in or very near to all of them are fantastic microbreweries or legendary wineries - Just sayin'.

As I referenced in a previous post, Bozeman IS growing, and it's our choice to join the ranks of Breck, Vineyard Haven and Summit Park or not. Your vote is your voice Bozeman, use it.

The Bloomberg Small Town Wealth Index:

Methodology: Bloomberg ranked more than 500 U.S. micropolitan areas (geographic entities that contain an urban core of about 10,000 and 50,000 in population) based on median household income, the share of households making $200,000 or more each year, median home value and the share of homes worth at least $1,000,000. Each metric was weighed equally and scored on a scale of 0-100 to derive the total index. All data were sourced from the U.S. Census Bureau's 2013 five-year American Community Survey.
