Two western Montana high school students have received appointments to the United States Military Academy at .West Point 

U.S. Senator Steve Daines made the announcement on Thursday that Macy Newbary of Big Sky High School and Michael Sewell of Frenchtown High School.

"One of the best parts of my job is to interview these outstanding Montanans and make appointments to our national military academies, and there are four," Daines said. "There are two from western Montana that have receive appointments to West Point. I made phone calls to them last night."

"The first is Macy Newbary," he said. "She's a senior at Big Sky High School in Missoula, is the captain of her school’s varsity volleyball and softball teams. She is a member of the National Honor Society and volunteers with Big Brothers and Big Sisters."

The other is Michael Sewell, a senior at Frenchtown High School, is the captain of his school’s track team and a member of the Northwest Montana Class A All-Conference Cross Country team. He serves as president of his Key Club and is a volunteer at the local food bank."

“I’m proud to congratulate these hardworking young Montanans on yet another success in their outstanding high school careers,” Daines stated. “An appointment to West Point Academy is proof of these students’ exemplary work in their academics and their unwavering dedication to public service. I look forward to watching these students become the future leaders of our state and nation.”

The United States Military Academy is located in West Point, New York.
