VA Montana provides support to Veterans Service Organizations and other community-generated and nonprofit organizations that support Veteran Stand Downs.

So far this year, VA Montana provided support and resources at 13 Stand Downs and provided resources to approximately 1,089 Veterans and families who are experiencing homelessness throughout Montana.

“Our support to Stand Downs is one component of VA’s effort to end homelessness by 2015," said Johnny Ginnity, VA Montana's Acting Director.

VA support services at Stand Downs typically include: resources to link Veterans to crisis shelters and transitional and permanent housing; assistance with VA enrollment and benefits; medical services; and surplus military gear for those Veterans who are experiencing homelessness or are at risk of homelessness.

Veterans at risk of homelessness don’t have to wait for a Stand Down to get help from VA.  Services are available through the VA Montana Medical Center as well as the community based outpatient clinics statewide.  Veterans can contact an outreach social worker by calling 406-874-5617 or 406-447-6045 or by going to the nearest VA location and ask to speak to a social worker.
