For more than two weeks Missoula Police have been in the midst of a rape investigation that began after a reported sexual assault near the M-Trail on Mount Sentinel.
A private attorney for the State of Montana said the state would have prevailed if the case by Jordan Johnson had gone to trial, but settled anyway, paying Johnson $245,000.
It was revealed on Wednesday that the State of Montana had settled out of court with former University of Montana quarterback Jordan Johnson for $245,000 claiming that the University assumed that Johnson was guilty before being proven innocent, and that certain officials attempted to hide evidence.
A man attending the Salish and Kootenai College, 34 year-old Melvin Lucei was charged in Missoula Justice Court on Monday with felony sexual assault and sexual intercourse without consent for allegedly having sexual contact with two sisters under the age of 16.
On Thursday, Zachary Newbary appeared in a sentencing hearing in Missoula District Court, however, Judge John Larson rejected the 21 year-old man's negotiated plea agreement.
A female University of Montana student reported to campus police that she had been raped at a residence near campus over the weekend. Missoula Police are investigating.
